Hint: A disease is an abnormal condition that affects the structure or function of parts of animals and plants. Diseases are the medical conditions that are associated with some symptoms and signs.
Complete Answer:
- Red rot disease is associated with the plants. This is a fungal disease which is caused by the fungi name as Glomerella tucumanensis which is also called as Colletotrichum falcatum.
- This fungi produces spores without undergoing any sexual process.
- This disease is caused in the sugarcane, Saccharum species maize, sorghum, etc.
- Cool, wet weather, heavy soils and continuous planting of the same variety of a plant on the same land favour this disease.
- The fungus can survive in the soil, on plant debris and in affected stems for a few months. Red rot also causes reduction in sucrose content in affected plants.
Symptoms of red rot disease:
- Due to red rot disease stems show the large red spots on the outside and internal red rots with white patches. As the roots develop, the stem can be easily broken. Stem are infected with red rot disease through the nodes and through wounds.
- Due to the red rot disease, a small oval red spot occurs on the midrib of leaves and upper surface of the leaf.
Detection of red rot disease:
- It can be detected by looking on to the red patches on the stems and midrib of the top surface of the leaf.
- Also looking for white spots in the pith.
Hence, option C is the correct answer for this question.
Note: Red rot disease mostly can be seen in the stem of sugarcane. The damage caused by this disease is irreversible. The progress of red rot can be prevented by or stopped by the treatment of aluminium alkoxide solution.
