Hint: Any substance that provides energy to run a machine is known as fuel. It includes coal, oil, wood, gas, etc. A fossil is a preserved cast, mold, or impression on an organism, on which partial or complete mineral deposition has occurred.

Complete answer:
Fossil fuels are formed by the anaerobic decomposition of plants and animals, buried under tremendous pressure inside the rock beds and sea beds around millions of years ago.
The four measures to conserve fossil fuels are:
1. Reducing, Reusing, and recycling waste: When we reuse a waste product, it increases the product's life and lesser energy is required for the production of the product while when we recycle a waste product, it requires lesser energy as compared to the production of a new product.
2. Conserving energy of electrical appliances: It includes switching of electrical appliances such as fans, lights, unplugging the electrical appliances in the ideal state, etc. It reduces the electricity bill and also conserves coal in coal-based power plants.
3. Using public transport: It means using buses and trains for travel rather than own private vehicles. Lesser vehicles on road mean lesser petrol and diesel is required to run them.
4. Using a renewable source of energy: a renewable source of energy means the energy that can be replenished in the due course of time. Using solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, etc. does not require fossil fuels and hence conserves fossil fuels.

Additional Information:
-Fossil fuels are a major source of air pollution.
-Fossil fuels contain a high percentage of carbon.
-Petroleum is the most used fossil fuel.
-Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), is a non-polluting fossil fuel.

Note: Fossil fuels are a non-renewable source of energy and cannot be replenished within a short span of time if depleted. It takes millions of years for the formation of fossil fuels.
