Some of the important policy measures taken by the government for the agricultural system in the country are as follows:

Technological Measures: Important measures are taken in the agricultural sector keeping in mind the production and sustainability so that growing needs are met for the growing population. The government also contributed towards building industrial development to improve both extensive and intensive cultivation.

Land Reforms: Land reform measure was one of the significant measures taken by the government so that the land reform systems such as the Zamindaris, the Ryotwari and the Mahalwari system be abolished and the actual tiller of the soil be benefitted from and be free from the burden of extra taxes.

Food Security System: The government of India has introduced an elaborate food security system so that food grains and essential goods are provided to the consumers at a cheap and subsidized rate. It introduced a system known as the Public Distribution System which works as a safety net by maintaining the stock of food grains in order to fight food shortage.
Rural Employment Programmes: The government during the Fourth Year Plan, introduced poverty alleviation programmes so that rural employment is met and that the purchasing power of the poor are also met.

Note:Another significant input that the Government of India made in the area of agriculture is that they have made a widespread use of the media such as the radio and the television for acquainting the farmers in new and advanced techniques of cultivation.
