There are three types of mirrors, namely convex mirror, concave mirror and plane mirror. All of these three mirrors have a silvered surface and a smooth surface. Note: Apart from silver, another metal which is used and is less costly to use in a mirror is aluminum. These metals reflect light because light is an electromagnetic wave and when it is incident on these metals, the metal cancels the electric field of the light which is parallel to the mirror and hence gets reflected away.
