Loose connective tissue is a common type of connective tissue in vertebrates with more ground substance and a relative lack of fibrous tissue. They include areolar, reticular, and adipose are types of loose connective tissue.
Areolar tissue is found beneath the epidermis layer and underneath epithelial tissue. It makes the skin elastic. It holds organs in situ and attaches animal tissue to other underlying tissues.
Organs rich in loose connective tissue have sites that undergo oedema helpful in indicating kidney failure or nephrotic syndrome.
It acts as a packaging tissue, holds organs in place, and attaches epithelial tissue to other underlying tissues.
The layer of skin is connected with other tissues like blood vessels with the help of these tissues. The cells act as reserves for water and important ions.
It is also found in or on mucous membranes and around blood vessels, nerves and the organs of the body and supports internal organs.

Note:All connective tissue consists of three main components: fibers (elastic and collagenous fibers), ground substance and cells. Also, areolar tissue is highly variable in appearance therefore, difficult to distinguish from dense irregular connective tissue.
