A laser is a device that emits light through an optical amplification process that is based on stimulated electromagnetic radiation emissions. The term 'laser' arose as an acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation".
Laser action arises from round-trip, coherent amplification of light brought about by optical feedback due to reflection at the end mirrors, initiated by emission coupled into the mode specified by the spontaneous emission factor.
Conditions to achieve laser action
(i) An inverted population must be in the excited state, i.e. more atoms than in the ground state.
(ii) The excited state out of all the states should be a metastable state.
(iii) The emitted photons must stimulate further emission.

Note- The full form of LASER is Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. LASER is a type of electromagnetic system that is an Electric Device that can emit light. They are produced using a method which is called optical amplification.
