Hint The high courts are at the apex of the judicial system in the state. In India, we have 25 high courts. A total of 1079 judges, including 771 permanent and 308 additional judges can be recruited for these 25 courts. These judges are necessarily citizens of India.

Apart from being a citizen of India, a person needs to have the following qualifications to become the judge of a High Court:
1. He or she should have held a judicial of this in the territory of India for at least 10 years or,
2. He or she must have served as an advocate of a High Court for at least 10 years for two or more High Courts in succession. If they have served for two different High Courts in succession, they should provide an explanation for the same.
3. Any period during which the person has held a judicial of this or office of a member of a Tribunal or any post under the Union or State that requires special knowledge of law after he became an advocate shall be included while computing the period in which he or she has been an advocate of High Court
There is no minimum age to become a judge of the high court but should be below 62 years of age.

Note The President appoints the Chief Justice of any High Court after consultation with the Chief Justice of India and the Governor of the specified state. All other judges are recommended to the ministry of law by a collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India. The Indian President appoints all judges of the High Court.
