Hint
Sponge is a compressible material which can be compressed with a little external force and sponge regains its original shape as applied external force is stopped.

Complete step by step solution
There are a lot of pores present in a sponge. These pores are filled with air. Now when the sponge is compressed with any external force then the air trapped on those pores expelled out of the sponge. And when the sponge is released, empty ores are again filled with air and the sponge comes in its original position and shape.
Therefore, sponge is easily compressible because of tiny air filled pores present in it and not because of the space between sponge’s particles.
Hence, sponge is a solid instead of it is compressible with force.
So it is true that sponge is solid. Therefore the correct answer is (A).

Note
As in the case of gas, space between its particles determines it as gas but in sponge’s case there is nothing like this.
