Hint: To obtain the solution of the given equation we will use simple addition and subtraction. Firstly as we can see it is a Linear equation so firstly we will try to get all the terms having the unknown variable on one side. Then we will make the coefficient of the unknown variable 1 by solving the equation. Finally we will get the desired answer.

Complete step by step solution:
The Linear Equation is given as:
$6x-8=4x$
Firstly start by subtracting $4x$ on both sides as below:
$\begin{align}
  & 6x-8=4x \\
 & \Rightarrow 6x-8-4x=4x-4x \\
 & \Rightarrow 2x-8=0 \\
\end{align}$
Now we will keep the $x$ term on one side and bring the other term on right hand side which in this case is 8:
$2x=8$
Finally divide both sides by 2 as below:
$\begin{align}
  & \Rightarrow \dfrac{2x}{2}=\dfrac{8}{2} \\
 & \therefore x=4 \\
\end{align}$
So we got the value of $x=4$

Hence, the solution for the equation $6x-8=4x$ is $x=4$

Note: Linear equations are those equations which have the unknown variable with highest power as 1. These equations are defined for the lines in the coordinate system. It is easy to solve the equation if it has only one unknown variable by merely adding and subtracting the terms. In case there is more than one unknown variable than other methods are used. We can check whether the answer obtained is right or not by substituting the value in the equation and checking whether we get the right side equal to the left side as below:
$\begin{align}
  & 6x-8=4x \\
 & \Rightarrow 6\times 4-8=4\times 4 \\
 & \Rightarrow 24-8=16 \\
 & \Rightarrow 16=16 \\
\end{align}$
As we can see Left side is equal to Right side, hence our answer is correct.
