Hint: A white greyish solid mixture of potassium or sodium hydroxide with calcium hydroxide is known as soda lime. It is soluble in water and leases a lot of heat. The process is highly exothermic in nature and is non- combustible in nature.
Complete step by step answer:
Soda lime is the mixture of CaO and NaOH in which the solvent is water and is around 15% in the composition mixture while the rest 85% is the calcium hydroxide. The catalysts are also used in the reaction which alter the rate of the reaction increasing its rate and do not interfere with the reaction mechanism at all, they remain unreactive during the course of reaction, and the catalysts used in this reaction are sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
Both potassium or sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide are corrosive in nature i.e. they corrode easily when they come in contact with oxygen, hydrogen. In the basal metabolisms test and in rebreathing systems the soda lime is medically used to absorb the carbon dioxide and is used as an adsorbent of the toxic gases in the gas masks. Due to its corrosive nature it can even destroy the gastrointestinal tract if swallowed by mistake and can lead to the death as well.
The constituents of the soda lime water that is carbon dioxide and water react with each other to form carbonic acid. Then the carbonic acid form in step 1 reacts with sodium hydroxide exothermically to form sodium carbonate and water. These reactions proceed as given in the steps below:
Step 1:$C{O_2} + {H_2}O \to {H_2}C{O_3}$
Step 2: ${H_2}C{O_3} + 2NaOH \to N{a_2}C{O_3} + 2{H_2}O + heat$
So the option B is the correct answer.
Note:
The most prevalent type of glass is the soda lime silica glass and is used in the windowpanes and glass containers and is also used in the production of the storage containers such as in the production of jars and bottles.
