We can say that a chemical compound is a substance which has several identical molecules containing atoms from more than one element (or) from two elements which are held together through chemical compounds.

Covalent bonds that hold the molecules together
Ionic bonds that hold on ionic compounds
Metallic bonds that hold on intermetallic compounds

We have to know that when elements are combined, certain individual features of the elements are lost, and the compound which is newly formed exhibits certain new features.
We can say that ice and snow do not have the ability for formation of compounds. This is because ice and snow contain the same molecules of water in solid state that are held by means of hydrogen bonds. As snow as well as ice is similar, they could not form compounds.
