It was a collective security pact, introduced by President Dwight D Eisenhower. 8 nations i.e United States, United Kingdom, France, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand ratified it in Manila. It was constituted as a part of the Truman doctrine. Bangkok, Thailand was chosen as the headquarters for SEATO. They had several joint defense exercises, economic reformation for the region, and promotion of regional events to keep these areas under the American influence. In 1977, the organization lost its relevance and ultimately got disbanded.
