Hint:. Water present in the sea is known as sea water. It is an easily available source of salt. Sea water contains an average of 35 parts per thousand salt of its water which represents a gallon of seawater that has roughly 4.5 oz salts in it.
Complete step by step answer:
- There are a large number of different salts mixed in the sea water. One of that is common salt given by the formula $NaCl$ which we further used as table salt. This technique is also used in ancient times and the process for extracting salt from sea water is termed as an ancient technology which involves evaporation ponds.
- In this technique shallow, water-proof ponds are dug out and connected to the sea by a short canal. A broad area and shallow depth allow a given volume of water to absorb more sunlight. When the pond is flooded then the canal is closed. The sunlight produced by the sun evaporates the water. As the water vaporizes the salt remains behind creating ever more saline water. In this technique most of the water evaporates and leaves behind a layer of sea salt crystals that can be further purified with the help of purification techniques.
- Hence we can say that the salt extracted from the sea is through the process of evaporation.
Note: Salt plays an important role in human life. The cells of the human body contain large proportions of salt dissolved water i.e. saline water and naturally seawater is the largest source of salt. There are a wide range of salts i.e. 14000 types of salts are there.
