Hint: In this question to find the nature of gas Saloni should have prior knowledge about when non-metal reacts with air it forms non-metal oxides, using this information will help Saloni to approach towards the solution to the question.

Complete step by step solution: The charcoal that Saloni took is a form of carbon, and carbon, is a non-metal.
As we know, when non- metal react with air, it forms non-metal oxide which is thus acidic in nature.
Thus, when carbon or charcoal burns in air, it will form an oxide which will be acidic in nature and it is called carbon dioxide.
We have asked in the question how Saloni can find out the nature of gas. Therefore, she can find the nature of gas if she can find the nature of gas in the test tube. To test whether the gas is acidic or basic, litmus solution is an indicator, which turns red if the following compound is acidic in nature whereas it turns blue if the compound is basic in nature. So, when Saloni will put some blue litmus solution in the jar. The blue litmus solution turns red, which means that the gas is acidic in nature.
Secondly, we have asked about the equation of all the reactions taking place in this process. The process taking in this process are as follows:-
Equation1: When carbon burns with air it form carbon dioxide which is written as
                  Carbon + Oxygen $ \to $ carbon dioxide
                                   $C + {O_2}$ $ \to C{O_2}$

Equation2: When water is added to gas to make the solution
                 Carbon dioxide + water $ \to $ Carbonic Acid
                             $C{O_2}$ + ${H_2}O \to {H_3}C{O_3}$

Thus, there are the two reactions taking place in the process.

Note: There are other ways to prepare carbon dioxide such as you can react acid with carbonate to form carbon dioxide, in the preparation of carbon dioxide we usually use calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid the reason to choose these chemical compounds because they are easy to obtain and are cheap compare to other chemical compounds. There is also another way to obtain carbon dioxide since carbon dioxide gets slightly soluble in water and is more denser as compared to air due to which it becomes easy to collect it in an upright jar.
