Hint: In this question, we are given a six-digit number and we need to round off the number nearest thousand. For this, we just need to pick the last four digits up to which we have thousands and round it off. For rounding off, if the digit next to the digit to be round off is less than 4 then the digit remains the same and if the next digit is 5 or greater than 5 (up to 9) then the digit is increased by one. After that, all the below digits (in case of thousands, we have a hundred thousand ones) become zero.

Complete step by step answer:
Here we are given the number 745,012. We need to round off this number to the nearest thousand. Starting from the right we see, 2 is at one place, 1 is at tens place, 0 is at hundreds place and 5 is at thousands of places. For easier calculation, let us pick digits up to thousands place only. We have the number 5012. Now let us round off this number.
For rounding off the nearest thousands, we need to check the digit at hundreds of places. If the digit at hundreds of places is 4 or less than 4 the digit at thousands of places remains the same. If the digit at hundreds of places is 5 or greater than 5 (up to 9) then the digit at thousands of places gets increased by one. The digits following thousands will all get equal to zero.
Here we have a digit at hundreds of places as 0 which is less than 4, so the digit at thousands of places i.e. 5 remains the same. Also the digits 0, 1, 2 become 0. Therefore 5012 is rounded off as 5000.
Writing the original number with leftover digits, we have the number as 745000. Hence the rounded off number is 745000.

Note:
Students should note that we need to check the next (lower) digit i.e. the digit to the right to round off our number. If the next digit is 5, even then the digit gets increased by 1. If we had the number as 5612 then it would have rounded off to the number 6000.
