Hint:As we know the female reproductive system performs different functions. The system is composed of a pair of ovaries along with oviducts, vagina, uterus, cervix, and the external genitalia that are situated in the pelvic region. These parts along with a pair of mammary glands support the process of ovulation, fertilization, birth and also finally the child care.
Complete answer:
A uterus which is also called the womb consists of three layers which are the inner glandular layer, the middle thick layer, and the outer thin layer. These three layers are maintained by ligaments which are joined to the pelvic wall which opens into the vagina from a narrow cervix.
The cervical canal along with the vagina is the birth canal. The opening of the cervical canal is usually very narrow. Parturition which means childbirth or labor happens through the birth canal.
The cervix is a part of the female reproductive system which connects the uterus or the womb to the vagina. It is the lowermost part of the uterus and it is made up of strong muscles.
The function of the cervix is to allow flow of the menstrual blood from the uterus into the vagina, and also directs the sperms to the uterus during the process of intercourse.
The diagram below shows the Female Reproductive System.
Note:
The vagina connects the cervix to the external body. It functions as the receptacle for the penis during sexual intercourse and delivers the sperm to the fallopian tubes and uterus. It also acts as a birth canal by expanding to allow delivery of the fetus during childbirth. Pregnant humans go into labor almost nine months after conception.
