Hint:The occupational structure of a country refers to the percentage of its workforce employed in various economic sectors. In India, the occupational structure is divided into three categories: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary activities. The development is calculated in terms of how many people are involved in each category of the occupational sector.
Complete Answer:
-As the majority of the population in India lives in rural areas and activities related to agriculture is their only source of income, agriculture is the primary activity of the occupational structure and comprises 70-75% of the working population. The primary activities include agriculture, fishing, mining, quarrying, etc.
-Secondary activities include the manufacturing industry, building and construction work, etc which comprises 10%.
-Tertiary activities include transport, communication, administration, and other services which comprise 15-20%.
-The development of a country is related to the occupational structure of a country as more the percentage of the population is involved in primary activities, it can be seen that the country is less developed.
-As the people move from primary activities to secondary or tertiary activities the country develops more and a greater percentage of the population working in the tertiary sector means the country is highly developed.
Note:The development of a country is directly proportional to the percentage of the population working in each sector of the occupational structure of that country. If the majority of the population is in the primary sector that means the country is underdeveloped and if the majority is in the tertiary sector it can be said that the country is highly developed.
