Hint: The speed at which the products are going to form from the reactants in a chemical reaction is called rate of the reaction. Few chemical reactions occur instantaneously but few more chemical reactions take huge time to complete.
Complete answer:
- In the question it is asked how the rate of the chemical reaction can be affected.
- There are different factors which can influence the rate of the reaction.
- By changing the factors we can increase or decrease the rate of the chemical reaction.
- The factors which influence the rate of the chemical reaction are as follows.
i) Temperature
ii) Concentration of the reactants
iii) Nature of the solvent
iv) Pressure
v) Catalyst
vi) Physical state of the reactants
- The above mentioned factors are going to influence the rate of the chemical reaction.
- If we increase the temperature of the chemical reaction the rate of the chemical reaction is going to increase and the concentration of the products also increases in less time.
- If we increase the concentration of the reactants then the concentration of the product also increases due to increased I collisions between the reactants.
- If the reactants are polar in nature then the reaction should be done in polar solvent to increase the rates of the chemical reaction.
- In the presence of the catalyst also the rate of the chemical reaction is too high.
- If the reactants have a large surface then also the reaction rate will be high.
Note:
Means by changing the above mentioned factors we can decrease or increase the rate of the chemical reaction. That is why the above mentioned terms are mentioned and factors affecting the rate of the chemical reaction.
