The prescribed maximum number of elected members in Rajya Sabha are 238.
The maximum number of nominated members in Rajya Sabha are 12 which are nominated by the president of India. In the constitution the article 80 describes that the Maximum strength of members in Rajya Sabha should be 250. Out of which 12 members are nominated by the president and 238 are represented in the states and union territories of Delhi and Puducherry. The members that are nominated by the president are persons from the field of literature, science, art and social services. And the persons from this field should have special knowledge or practical experience of the above fields. Article 84 of the Constitution describes the qualifications of the members of Rajya Sabha.
Following should be the eligibility of the members of Rajya Sabha.
- he must be citizen of India
- he must be not less than 30 year of age
- he must have qualifications prescribed by the law made by Parliament.

Note:-one third member of Rajya Sabha election in every two year.
