Zanu-PF is the ruling party of Zimbabwe since independence in 1980.The ZANU party was led by The party for many years was led by and under the Prime Minister of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), Robert Mugabe. He later rose to become the then President from the year 1987. This happened only after the merger with another party called the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU). This happened for the first time in the history of the party. They then brokered a complex power-sharing agreement with another party called the Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai (MDC). it was later in 2013 that they subsequently won the 2013 election and top of it gained a two-thirds majority.
