Hint:The powers of any party other than the Chinese Communist Party is eliminated. There is no true opposition in the Chinese Government.

Complete answer:
Officially, China is supposed to be a multi-party socialist state. But in reality, it is a multi-party socialist state under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. Majority of the candidates in the People’s congress belong to the Chinese Communist Party. Only a small number of candidates are individual or from other minor parties.
There are no legal requirements of membership or approval from the Chinese Communist Party, but in reality the membership of the people’s congress and people’s government is strongly determined by the Communist Party. Independent candidates are discouraged and they face interventions and obstacles in their campaigns. The powers of any party other than the Chinese Communist Party is eliminated.
Since no other minor parties can stand on their own, they have to rely on the approval and support of The Chinese Communist and there is no true opposition in the Chinese Government. There are only 9 minor parties that are allowed to take part in elections with the Chinese Communist Party. Hence all members are not free to contest for elections.
Hence, it also means that the citizens are not directly choosing the government because the members and contestants for elections are only approved or restricted by the Chinese Communist Party.
Therefore, we can conclude that the Chinese Government is not democratic. For a government to be democratic, every member of every party shall have an equal opportunity to contest in elections and challenge the ruling parties. This is very much absent in the case of China.

Thus, the correct answer is Option (B) Elections are held under the Communist Party’s approval.

Note:- In the latest elections of the 13th National People’s Congress the Communist Party of China won 2119 seats out of a total of 2980 seats.
- It has been the sole ruling party of China since 1949.
- China is also said to be an authoritarian, totalitarian or even dictatorship by foreign media outlets.
