Hint: There are some microscopic particles that can’t be seen from our vision because they are very tiny or smaller in size. Atoms can’t be seen from our naked eyes because of the same reason and also, they do not exist independently.
Complete step by step answer:
-Atoms are the defining structures of an element and are the basic units of matter. The term ‘atom’ is derived from the Greek word used for indivisibility, because atoms are the smallest things that can’t be divided further.
-There comes an assumption that atoms were created billions of years back by Big Bang theory. When the hot and dense new universe started cooling, quarks were formed and together they formed protons and neutrons which combine to form a nuclei. After many years, when the universe was cooled enough, the nuclei captured electrons and appeared whole as an atom.
-Virtually, all the mass of an atom resides in its nucleus which contains protons and neutrons of same mass and same spin. An attraction exists between electrons outside the nucleus and protons in the nucleus due to their opposite charges, this results in decrease of size of an atom and make it microscopic in quantity, which can only be seen with the help of a microscope.
This is the reason that we can’t observe an atom from our naked eyes, but we can see them via microscope by our vision.
Note:
Everything in the universe is made up of atoms. When a group of atoms are bonded together, they form a molecule which represents the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound. Molecules with high mass can only be seen by our naked eyes, else they are also very tiny particles
