Hint: The brightest star of Ursa Major, the Polaris or north star is a cepheid star, the luminosity of the north star has been increasing during the past couple of decades because of the size.

Complete answer: The brightest star of the constellation Ursa Minor, North Star is also known as the Pole star or Polaris. People used to determine the directions during night with the help of stars, and the Pole star help indicated the north direction. The position of this star star is fixed.
-Because of the fixed position of the star, it becomes easy to draw the celestial navigation and astrometry, a branch of astronomy which involves the measurement of movements and positions of stars and other celestial bodies.
-In a study it is found that the size of the pole star of polaris is forty-six times larger than the Sun and the luminosity of the star is four thousand times larger than the sun. According to the scientists, the reason behind this was that the north star was a cepheid star, these stars have a well defined luminosity period and these stars are used to indicate the directions.
-The north star is considered a special star as it pulsates at a constant interval, in simple terms, the star gets brighter for some period of time due to the change in the size of the star.

Note: The North star is a triple star system, often called Polaris, A, B, C. The difference between A and B is 2,400 astronomical units. The difference between C and A is only 18.5 astronomical units.
