Neha and Richa, two students of class IX of a school, together contributed Rs.100 towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, to help earthquake victims. Assume Neha’s contribution to be x and that of Richa to be y. Write a linear equation which this data satisfies and draw a graph of the same.

Hint:Sum of the contribution of Neha and the contribution of Richa towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund is equal to 100.

In this question first we will find the linear equation for the given condition and then using the equation we will find the coordinate through which line will pass through in the graph.

In the equation if we substitute one of the variables as 0 then we will get the value of the other variable in the equation.

Complete step by step solution:
Given Neha’s contribution towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund\[ = x\]
Richa’s contribution towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund\[ = y\]

Now since it is said that they together contributed Rs.100 to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, hence we can write
\[x + y = 100\]

So the linear equation for the given data is \[x + y = 100\]
Now let us assume\[x = 0\], hence we can write the equation \[y = 100\]
Also when we substitute\[y = 0\] in the equation we get \[x = 100\]

Hence we the linear equation will pass through the points \[\left( {0,100} \right)\]and \[\left( {100,0}
\right)\]on the graph.
We get the graph as

Note:In a 2-dimensional graph the distance of a point to the vertical axis measured parallel to the horizontal axis is known as abscissa and the distance of a point to the horizontal axis measured parallel to the horizontal vertical axis is known as ordinate.
To plot a graph the value of the abscissa and the ordinate should be known to us and it is represented as \[\left( {abscissa,ordinate} \right)\]in the coordinate.
