Hint
A coil is a heating element attached to the heating unit itself. The heater generates the electric current which flows into the coil. The heating coil transfers the electric energy into heat energy. It may be directly immersed in the medium to heat it up or radiate heat through an open space.

Complete step-by-step answer:
There are two main characteristics of a heater coil - (1) High melting, (2) High resistance.
(i)High melting point:- For these characteristics it can easily stand for the highest temperature and with the increase in temperature, it might not melt down the coil or heating element.
(ii)High resistance:- For this it requires a small length of wires so that it can easily heat the appliances.
There is another characteristic of the heater coil
(iii)Low temperature coefficient of resistance:- That's why Nichrome, an alloy of chromium and nickel, is used as a heating element in electric heating devices as nichrome has all the above characteristics.

Note
Heating coils are tools that are used to generate heat; they are used in industrial, commercial and consumer appliances and equipment for an extensive variety of applications. Heating coils function by converting electricity to heat. Heating coils are among the most widely used heating element varieties.
