Hint: Valves are the structures in the human heart that prevents the backflow of blood. One valve is present between the right atriums and the right ventricle and the other between the left atrium and the left ventricle.
Correct answer:
The valves that guard the left and right atrioventricular apertures in man are the tricuspid valve and the bicuspid valve. These valves are present in the heart that prevents the backflow or bidirectional flow of blood.
Tricuspid valve: This valve is named the tricuspid valve because it contains three irregularly shaped flaps or costs of tissue called leaflets.
The leaflets consist essentially of folds of the endocardium, the membrane lining the guts and reinforced with a flat sheet of dense animal tissue.
This valve opens to permit the blood to be due to the proper atrium to the proper ventricle. This valve is present within the junction of the proper atrium and ventricle.
Bicuspid valve: This valve is named the bicuspid valve because it contains two irregularly shaped flaps or costs of tissue called leaflets.
This valve opens to allow the blood to flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle. This valve is present in the junction of the left atrium and left ventricle. This valve is also called the mitral valve.
Mechanism of blood flow through the valve:
-When the left atrium receives the oxygenated blood from the lung through the pulmonary veins. At the same time, the right atrium receives the deoxygenated blood from the body through the vena cava.
-When the atriums contract the deoxygenated blood moves from the right atrium into the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. While the oxygenated blood moves from the left atrium into the left ventricle through the bicuspid valve.
Note:
-valves are present in the heart that prevents the backflow or bidirectional flow of blood.
-Tricuspid valve is present at the junction of the right atrium and the right ventricle.
-Bicuspid valve is present at the junction of the left atrium and the left ventricle.
-Deoxygenated blood flows through the tricuspid valve whereas oxygenated blood flows through the bicuspid valve.
