Hint: Drainage patterns are also known as drainage systems or river systems. They are classified on the basis of their form and texture. They depend on the geology and topography of the land.

Complete answer:
Drainage patterns are defined as the system or pattern formed by the streams, rivers and lakes in drainage basins. It is the geometric arrangement of the streams in any region. They are developed in places where there is runoff and least resistance provided by the earth. They are controlled by various factors such as topography, slope, structural control, rocks, tectonic movements etc.

There are various types of drainage patterns and the grid square 9382 pattern is known as the dendritic drainage pattern. It is the most common and well known pattern which is not straight and appears like the branches of tree roots which are known as sub-tributaries which join the tributaries of the main river. They are formed in areas where there is flat and uniform bedrock similar to sandstone or shale.

Note:
-The word is derived from a Greek word dendrites which means tree-like.
-There are four major drainage patterns, i.e. dendritic, radial, centripetal and trellis.
-The Radial drainage pattern is formed when the rivers originate from a hill and flows in all the directions such as Amarkantak range and the Ramgarh crater.
-The Centripetal drainage pattern originated when the rivers released their waters from every direction into a lake such as Loktak Lake.
-Trellis drainage pattern originates when the primary tributaries of the main rivers flow parallel to each other and the secondary tributaries merge with them at right angles such as Himalayan range.
