Hint:Here, you are asked to name the two types of star clusters, mention the difference between them and give one use of study of star clusters. Firstly, you need to know what star clusters are. After having thought about the star clusters, you need to classify them considering their definition and property and after you know the properties, you can tell the difference between the two star clusters.
Complete answer:
Large groups of stars are called star clusters. In space, we have some group of stars which are tightly held together and consists of hundreds of millions of stars and are gravitationally bound. These groups of stars are called the global clusters. Another group of stars are loosely held together and consists of stars that are very young and the strength of stars is also very less, about just hundreds of them. These groups of stars are called open clusters.
So far, we have seen that both globular clusters and open clusters are star clusters but are different. First, the globular clusters are globule shaped balls, basically they are roughly spherical in shape, whereas open clusters can be considered as spiral arm of galaxy. Second, the globular clusters are very old, about 12 to 13 billion years old and on the other hand, open clusters are just a few million years old.The study of star clusters is useful for astronomers as it helps to study the stellar evolution and the age of stars.
So, two types of star clusters are the globular clusters and the open clusters.
Note:Here, we have discussed the star clusters and its two types. One is a globular cluster and the other one is an open cluster. You need to keep in mind what are globular and open clusters and what do they differ in. Globular clusters are very old and consist of too many stars whereas open clusters are young and consist of only a few numbers of stars in them.
