Hint: Solubility is the property of the solute or it is the ability of solute to dissolve in a solvent . it is the property which is measured in terms of the maximum amount of solute dissolved in solvent at equilibrium. Solvent is the substance or generally a liquid in which the other materials get dissolved to form a solution. There are two types of solvents that are; polar solvent and non polar solvent. The solvents can be acidic, basic, amphoteric and aprotic. Ionic compound is a compound in which the particles are attracted towards by electrostatic force of attraction and are bonded by ionic bonding.

The most ionic compounds are soluble in polar solvent. The reason is that the polar solvents decrease the electrostatic force of attraction which is present between the ions in the compound and get dissociated easily. Thus resulting in the ionic compounds into free ions in solution. They have higher lattice energy due to which they easily overcome the strong force of attraction and dissolves the substance in it.
Water is the polar solvent in which ionic compounds dissolve easily. Water is a polar solvent because the arrangement of oxygen and hydrogen atoms in water is in bent shape. It has one side positive charge because of hydrogen and the other side is negative due to oxygen atom. They are bonded by covalent bonding because there is sharing of electrons between the atoms.
The water dissolves the ionic compounds because the size of water is small, so many water molecules surround the one molecule of solute. Due to its polarity it dissolves the ionic compound easily in the solvent.

Note: The solubility of ionic compounds is determined by the cations and anions that form the compound. As the ionic compounds are soluble in polar solvent such as water, so due to this the ionic compounds can conduct electricity in water. The reason is that the ionic compound ions are free to move in the solution. They can conduct electricity in molten state not in solid state because in solid state the ions are at fixed positions.
