Complete answer: The National Waterway 2 was opened in 1988 and is owned by the Inland Waterways Authority of India. It is a section of the Brahmaputra river and is 891 km long. It has 11 terminals of which Pandu Port is a fixed terminal and the others are floating terminals. It is between the Bangladeshi border near Dhubri at the south end and Sadiya in Assam at the north end. The waterway is used for passenger/cruise and cargo vessels. The cargo movement is 2 million tonnes. The cargo includes coal from Meghalaya, limestone for cement plants, bitumen from Haldia, food grains from Kolkata, Fertilizers, building materials, and bamboo. For safe navigation, during day and night, the IWAI is working on providing necessary navigation aids. terminal facilities have been set up for loading and unloading at strategic locations like Dhubri, Pandu, and temporary facilities at Jogighopa, Silghat, Neamati, and Dibrugarh.

The job of IWAI is to develop and regulate the Inland waterways for shipping and navigation. The National Waterway 1 is also known as the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system and is 1620 km long.
