The famous Dandi March is also known as The Salt Satyagraha which was initiated by Mahatma Gandhi against the salt tax imposed by the British government under the reign of Lord Irwin, in Indian Subcontinent. Gandhi Ji, led a large group of people from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, a coastal village in Gujarat on 12th March 1930, to break the salt law by producing salt from seawater.

Gandhi believed that this salt Satyagraha would dramatise "Purna Swaraj" meaning complete self-rule in a way that was meaningful to every Indian. He also expected that a coherent and inclusive movement could build unity between Hindus and Muslims by fighting against the injustice that affected them equally. The movement remarked the beginning of the Civil Disobedience Movement.
