Complete step by step answer: Typhoid fever is an acute illness associated with fever. Typhoid fever is also known as typhoid. It is a bacterial infection caused by a specific type of Salmonella. The symptoms of the infection may vary from mild to severe and usually begin six to a month after exposure. The infection is characterised by a gradual onset of a high fever that occurs over the period of several days.
Salmonella Typhi, a Gram-negative bacterium is the causative agent of typhoid fever . It is the pathogen of typhoid fever. There are the two main sequence types of the S. Typhi that are found and they are ST1 and ST2, which are currently widely spread throughout the whole world.
The disease shows specific symptoms which develop gradually in the body and it is often appearing one to three weeks after exposure to the disease. At the first stage, fever starts with a low temperature which increases gradually day by day and it may reach the excess level of 104.9 F. This is accompanied by other symptoms like headaches, muscle aches, weakness, and fatigue. Sweating, dry cough, weight loss, and abdominal pain are also seen in an affected person as symptoms of typhoid. In some cases, skin rash also arises. In extreme cases it becomes delirious and life threatening to the patient.
If the affected person does not receive treatment properly, it may lead to harmful and dangerous complications. In some infected individuals, the signs and symptoms of the infection may return up to two weeks even after the fever has subsided.
A diagnosis of typhoid fever can be confirmed by the Widal test. The Widal test procedure is performed by the serum agglutination test to detect typhoid fever. There are two types in the Widal test; the slide method and the tube method. The Widal test for typhoid is a rapid test diagnostic method. The results of the test are fast and accurate in nature and are ready on the same day.
