Hint: The river is also known as the Rewa River. The Sardar Sarovar Dam is built across this river. The river is approximately 1312 km long, and is also termed as the “lifeline of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh”.

Complete Answer: The Narmada river is a river in central India, along with Krishna and Godavari. It is older than the river Ganges. It is also termed as “lifeline of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh '' for its huge contribution to these states. It rises from Maikala range near Amarkantak plateau, near to the Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh.
The river is bounded by Vindhyas on the north, Satpuras on the south, Maikala range to its east and by the Arabian Sea to its west. It flows over a length of 1312 km and occupies a basin of 98,796 km2 before draining its water into the Arabian Sea. The upper part of the basin consists of the hilly regions while it is broad and fertile, making it suitable for cultivation, in the lower middle reaches.
The important cities on the banks of river Narmada are Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Handia, Maheshwar and Mandhata, out of which Jabalpur is the only important urban centre.
Thus, the correct answer is option (C).

Note: India’s best hardwood forest and teaks are found in the Narmada basin and are much older than the Himalayas. In the Hindu culture, the Narmada river is considered to be one of the seven holy rivers of India.
