Hint: Ram Mohan Roy was born in 1772, in Radhanagar village, West Bengal. He studied Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit, Quran, Upanishads, Vedas and translated many of the scriptures in English. This majorly influenced his thoughts about God. In 1803, he moved to Murshidabad where he published his first book.

Complete answer:
Ram Mohan Roy was an Indian religious, social, and educational reformer who challenged traditional Hindu notions and spoke of progress for Indian society with reforms under colonial rule.
In 1805 he was employed by John Digby, a company official with a lower position who introduced him to Western culture and literature.
After his father's death in 1803 he published his first book - Tuhfat-ul-Muwahhidin (A Gift to Monotheism). In August 1828, he founded the Brahmo Samaj, an influential social-religious reform movement. Later, it went on to influence many progressive ideas of modern India.
His most significant contributions include his fight for the rights of women, especially with respect to Sati, a tradition dating hundreds of years back. He fought for other rights of women such as the right to remarry and inherit property. In 1830, he travelled to the UK as the Mughal Empire's envoy to ensure that Lord William Bentinck's law banning the practice of Sati was not overturned.
He also established many schools in India to provide modern education. He is even considered to be a pioneer in journalism of India as he published many journals in Bengali, Persian, Hindi and English to promote his ideas; the most important including Bengali weekly Samvad Kaumudi. He is also credited for the Bengal Gazette and a Persian newspaper called Miratul-Akbar.

Note: Roy was often referred to as the father of modern India. In his newspapers, treatises, and books, he criticized idolatry and superstition of traditional Hinduism. He denounced the caste system and believed in monotheism. In 1820, he published the ‘ethical’ teachings of Christ, excerpted from the four Gospels, under the title Precepts of Jesus, the Guide to Peace and Happiness.
