We know that the position of any point is represented by the coordinates and the coordinates comprise two distances. One distance is from the \[X\]-axis and the other from the \[Y\]-axis.
So the horizontal line drawn in the Cartesian plane is known as the \[X\]-axis and the vertical line drawn in the Cartesian plane is known as the \[Y\]-axis.
For example: Coordinates of a point is \[\left( {5,2} \right)\] which means the point has an intercept of 5 on the \[X\]-axis and the point has the intercept of 2 on the \[Y\]-axis in the Cartesian plane.
Also in the representation of this axis in the Cartesian plane are perpendicular to each other and intersecting at a point which is named as the origin.
