Complete Answer:
Plants and animals are the important natural resources which have been exploited by humans very badly. Government has taken a number of initiatives to conserve Plants and animals (flora and fauna). Here are the two steps that had been taken by government to conserve plants and animals:
1. Establishment of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries
2. Biosphere reserve to protect our natural vegetation and wildlife.
Apart from these, many awareness programmes have been conducted by governments like 'Van Mahotsav' and social forestry for planting of trees to conserve forests.

Note:
The first National Park in India was established as “Hailey National Park” in the year 1936 and later renamed as “Corbett National Park.” There are a total number of 104 national parks in India. Later in 1992, 'Project Elephant' was launched and the aim of this project was to protect the endangered wild Asian elephants and their habitat.
Natural habitat that is run by the governing bodies or private organizations that protects certain species of animals and birds is known as wildlife sanctuaries. They are established to protect the endangered species. It is quite difficult to always relocate the animals from their natural habitat, therefore, in order to protect them in their natural environment is advantageous. National park preserves flora and fauna, historic objects, landscape, etc. whereas, wildlife sanctuary preserves birds, animals, insects, reptiles, etc.
