- Tropical rainforests are those forests where there is no dry season where there is average rainfall is less than 1680 mm. It is also known as a lowland equatorial evergreen rainforest. The temperature in these forests ranges from 20 to 35 degree Celsius and the climate is consistent all around the year.
- They are mainly found in the north and south of the equator which are a type of tropical moist broadleaf forest. The forest receives only 2% of the sunlight and only plants are adapted to this low light.
- Regarding the soil structure then the soil is very fertile where at the surface the dead leaves are decomposed. The major commodities produced are yam, coffee, chocolate, banana, mango, papaya, macadamia, avocado and sugarcane.
- The forest consists of a high level of biodiversity of approximately 40 to 75% which is a home to half of all the living animal and plant species with two third of flowering plants. The forest is made up of various layers, i.e. ground level, shrub layer, under canopy, main canopy and emergent.
