The term ‘media’ was introduced during the 1920s and before that there was only print media active in the year 1780 in which the Bengal Gazette was introduced by James Augustus Hicky. Then, in the year 1785 the Madras Courier was started by Richard Johnson who was a government printer. In the year 1791 the second newspaper was introduced. In the year 1927 radio was broadcasted and all these gave a huge boost to the mass media industry.
The most common forms of mass media are:-
Broadcast in which various programs are transmitted to the audience through the use of several channels such as radio, television, any recorded music etc. When it is done with the help of the Internet it is termed as Webcasting.
Film is also regarded as an important aspect where motion pictures are focused which is produced by recording people and objects with the help of camera or creating animation effects.
Video games is a computer based controlled game where the video is displayed with the help of a monitor or television and controlled by an input device such as a button or joystick or keyboard or mouse etc.
The Internet has been the most significant center of mass media in which information is transmitted or received through websites, podcasts, mobile etc.
Print media has always been an important source of media including newspapers and magazines.

Mass media are able to make money through advertising, communicating the required information to citizens through various links, apps such as YouTube, television involving news channels, distributing pamphlets, blogs etc.

Note: The print media was the first to be introduced in the 15th century.
