Hint: Blood is one of the most essential aspects of life. In the human circulatory system, the blood is a fluid that moves through the blood vessels.

Under a microscope, we can see that our blood actually consists of a mixture of liquid and cells. In humans, the blood contains three main components. The liquid component is called plasma, then two varieties of blood cells as RBC and WBC and lastly the cell fragments called platelets.
A) Red Blood cells: The other name for RBC is erythrocytes. They circulate throughout the body to deliver oxygen throughout the tissues.
- RBCs are small and biconcave shaped. RBC consists of haemoglobin which helps them to transport oxygen. RBC does not have mitochondria, which helps them deliver all oxygen contents to body tissues.
- RBC picks oxygen from lungs, after circulation in the body, RBC releases oxygen to the surrounding tissues. RBCs also help to transport carbon dioxide, a waste product, from the tissues back to the lungs.
B) White Blood cells: They are also known as leukocytes. They occupy less than 1% of the cells in the blood. They provide immunity to the body.
- They protect the body system from getting infected from bacteria and viruses. They are larger in size than the RBCs. There are five types of WBCs namely neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, monocytes and lymphocytes.
Note: It circulates across our body, supplying oxygen and nutrients to different cells and tissues. Blood occupies 8% of our total body weight. The average adult has around 5-6 litres of blood.
