Hint: Chemical formula is used to describe the compound in the reactions. We can describe the compound easily by using a chemical formula. It involves the use of chemical symbols of the elements.
Complete step by step solution:
Every compound has a chemical formula. Let’s learn about chemical formulas.
-Chemical formula is a formula which shows the atoms that are present in the molecule. Alongside that, it also gives information about the number of particular atoms present in the compound.
-Chemical formula is used to show compounds in writing the reaction because writing the name of the compounds in the reaction makes it too lengthy.
-In writing the chemical formula of the compound, the atoms present in the compound is shown by its chemical symbols. We write the number of particular atoms present in the compound by writing the number on the right-hand side of the symbol in subscript.
-When there is more than one element present in the compound, then the atom with least electronegativity is written first and then other atoms’ chemical symbols are written in the order of increasing electronegativity.
Let’s see some of the examples of the compounds and its molecular formula.
1) Water
Chemical formula: ${H_2}O$
2) Benzene
Chemical formula: ${C_6}{H_6}$
3) Ozone
Chemical formula: ${O_3}$
4) Sodium chloride
Chemical formula: NaCl
5) Acetic acid
Chemical formula: $C{H_3}COOH$
Note: Remember that we cannot swap the positions of the elements present in the compounds in the chemical formula. e.g. We cannot write the chemical formula of water as $O{H_2}$. The more proper way of writing its formula is ${H_2}O$.
