Complete answer: (i)Theosophical society
The theosophical society was founded in New York United States of America 1975 by madame HP Blavatsky a Russian lady and Henry Steel Olcott an American colonel.
Its objectives were to form a universal brotherhood of man without any distinction of race, colour, creed and to promote the study of ancient religions and philosophies.
They arrived in India and established their headquarters at Adyar in Madras in 1882.
(ii)Central Hindu College, Varanasi
Mrs Annie Besant founded the Central Hindu college along with Madan Madan Mohan Malviya at Benaras in 1898 which later developed into Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
She arrived in India in 1893 and took over the leadership of the theosophical society of India to get the credit to popularise it among masses.
In 1916 message Annie Besant started home rule League at Madras on the lines of the one which was established by Bal Gangadhar Tilak at Pune.
(iii)Ramkrishna mission
The original name of Swami Vivekananda was NarendraNath Dutt. He became the most famous disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa.
In September 1893, Swami Vivekananda participated in the Parliament of Religions held in Chicago and increased the reputation of India and Hinduism very strongly. He founded the Ramakrishna Mission at Belur mutt, Howrah in 1897. It was a social service in charitable society with the objectives of providing humanitarian relief and social work through the establishment of schools, colleges, hospitals and orphanages.
(iv)Aligarh movement
For the social and educational advancement of the Muslims in India, the Aligarh movement was started by Sir Syed Ahmed khan.
In 1866 he started the Mohammedan educational conference as a general forum for spreading the liberal ideas among the Muslims.
In 1875 he founded the Modern school at Aligarh to promote English education among Muslims which later turned into Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental college and into the Aligarh Muslim University.
(v)Ahmadiyya movement
The Ahmadiyya movement was founded by Mirza Ghulam Ahamad of Qadiyan in 1889.
Like the Brahmo Samaj, the Ahmadiyya movement based itself on the ideals of the common religion of all mankind. Ghulam Ahmad was profoundly influenced by the theosophy of Western liberalism, and by the Hindus' religious reform movements.
The movement spread western liberal education among Indian Muslims and started a network of schools and colleges for that purpose.
