The programme was initiated in 1971 by UNESCO and it is an intergovernmental scientific programme. It focuses to establish and improve the interactive ways and relationship of the people with their environment. It works on the principle of sustainable development goals. It tries to predict the impact of today’s activities on the future generations and thus encourages people to manage and utilize their resources in a more efficient manner.
The MAB programme is responsible for providing a totally unique platform for the cooperation on research and development (R&D), building of the capacity and also provides network for sharing information, knowledge and experience on mainly three interconnected and most prevalent issues of the today’s time that is biodiversity loss, climate change and sustainable development.
Man and Biosphere programme is also responsible for contributing not only in better understanding of the environment, but also aids in promoting the greater involvement of science and encourages scientists to help in development of the policies which are concerned to the wise and proper use of biological diversity.
