Hint: We know that the loading process is basically a sedimentation process as it involves the suspension of a solid particle in a liquid and gets settled at the bottom due to gravity. Alum is used for this process because it fast the loading process.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
Let’s understand this process in complete detail.
Basically the loading process is a type of sedimentation process. It is the process by which the mixture of liquids which contain some impurities is separated by adding a chemical. This chemical makes the impurities heavier and settled at the bottom due to gravity. The chemical used in this process in order to speed up the reaction.
Alum is used as a chemical in this process to fast the process of loading. When alum is dropped in solution then the heavy particles of that solution become heavier as the alum reacts with them and make the particles heavier than before which results in the settling of the particles at bottom.
The loading process is generally used to separate impurities from the liquid.
Note:
It must be noted that the sedimentation process is not accurate because it does not give ideal results so we use the loading or decantation process instead of sedimentation. Loading process helps to speed up the sedimentation process with the addition of chemicals, example- Alum. Sometimes, decantation is also used when the impurities in the liquid or we can say mixtures of liquids are immiscible.
