The water harvesting process includes the storage of water that is further used for the cultivation process and domestic process. Therefore, conservation of water is a very important criteria to save water for future and one of such processes include the rain water harvesting. The water harvesting is undertaken through; capturing of runoff of water from the rooftop, local catchments, seasonal flood water from the stream, and conserving water with the help of watershed management. In short, water harvesting is a process of collecting rain water.

Now, the rain water harvesting is the process of conserving rain water by collecting, storing, and purifying the water for further use. The rain water can be collected and stored directly into a tank or recharges into the groundwater.

The advantages of water harvesting at community level are; it provides protection from the runoff of the storm water. The water harvesting reduces the significant damage of the creeks, organisms caused during storm water runoff, and water habitat.
