The first step is the making of the voter’s list. This is done by the Election Commission of India.
After the list has been made, the announcement regarding the election schedule is made. There are a few types of elections that are carried out in India;
General Lok Sabha Elections
State Assembly Elections
Rajya Sabha Elections

After the schedule has been announced the political parties contesting for the election, start releasing election manifestos which include the intentions of the respective parties towards the betterment of the society.

After releasing manifestoes, the members of political parties also engage with the citizens through Election campaigns, which include public speeches, rallies etc. The campaigning is supposed to be seized two days before the day of voting.

Filing of nomination is the next step, in which the parties nominate suitable candidates to contest for representation of a certain constituency. Once the contestants are selected. Their names are also published for the voters’ knowledge.

Casting of votes takes place next. The voting or polling takes place from 7 in the morning to 6 in the evening. Every person who votes gets his finger marked with an indelible ink which lasts for at least two days. This practice has been done since 1962.
