As he was elected he took several policy decisions to help the poor and the workers. His government was also opposed by the other political parties. Thereafter, on 11 September 1973, the military conquered the seaport and also arrested the Defence Minister. The President was asked to resign and as he refused to do so. Instead, he addressed the people of Chile on the radio after realizing that both, his life and the country, are in danger. Later he was attacked by bombs at the President’s house which is the La Moneda – Chile’s President Palace. President Allende died in this military attack and he addressed his sacrifice in his last speech.
