 It was established in 1336 by the brothers Harihara I and Bukka Raya II of the Sangama dynasty. It was named after the city of Vijayanagara. Vijayanagar Empire is also called as Karnata Empire and the Kingdom of Bisnegar by the Portuguese. It was located on the Deccan plateau region of South India. Its power started to decline after a major defeat in the battle of Talikota in 1565 . This empire subjugated almost all the South India's king ruling families and the sultan’s of the Deccan region, transformed into a noble power in the Deccan region.
