George Orwell who is famously known as ‘father of the railways’ was born to a poor family in 1781 near Newcastle. His family couldn’t afford to send him to school, so at a very small age he joined farming. His first interaction in his life with machines was when he got a job in coal mines. With use of coals he made his first engine at the age of 33 in the year 1814. After a few years of his first innovation, he made his first eight mile railway in Sunderland in the year 1819. After all these innovations he was appointed in Darlington and Stockton railway as engineer for the construction. Locomotion number 1 that carried passengers in 1825 on a public rail line of the Stockton and Dalton railway is the first steam locomotive built by the company of George and his son Robert. One of the key components of the industrial revolution was rail transport which was one of the most important and prominent technological inventions of the 19th century that was pioneered by George Stephenson. George Stephenson is known as the 'father of the railways’.
