Shaista Khan entered Pune province in February 1660 and encamped at Chakan. Firangoji Narsala, the Killdar of the fort of Chakan offered sturdy resistance to Shaistakhan's army. Sooner or later, the Mughals captured the fortress of Chakan.
Firangoji Narsala became organized for this assault, but, even though he had the best 320 infantrymen. Simply before this attack, Shivaji had asked his commander to go away from the fortress.
