Complete answer:Kanishka was the founder of the Kushan Dynasty, the empire extended to Pataliputra on the Gangetic plain. Kanishka was born in Peshawar and ascended the Kushan throne in 78 CE. One of the capitals of his empire was in Gandhara and another major capital in Kapisa. ( Ancient City)
His coins bear legends in Greek language and script and depict Greek divinities.
His empire was extended to vast regions with war, his imperial goal was to control the land silk road which connected East and West and these trade routes were used in the second century BCE and sea routes between South Asia and Rome.
Kanishka not only believed in Buddhism but also propagated its teachings. He organized a Buddhist council as well as ordered the construction of Kanishka Stupa at Peshawar ( Now in Pakistan).

Note: Kushanas were foreign invaders but they were Indianised in terms of culture, religion and ideas. Under their reign, the trade flourished between India and China and Rome.
